About this space
A place to settle in and get things done.
Custom Lane is a collaborative design-and-making centre in Leith, Edinburgh, bringing together workspaces, studios, exhibitions, events and café life within a characterful waterfront setting. Its ground-floor co-working space is designed for creative freelancers, with custom desks beside the public-facing gallery and café. Across the building, 17 studios accommodate designers, makers and creative practitioners, while a first-floor meeting room seats eight for focused conversations, presentations or small group sessions. The venue also offers a 65-square-metre gallery and a 90-square-metre event room, with flexible arrangements for exhibitions, talks, workshops, private gatherings and cultural programmes. Its events calendar reflects a broad interest in design, architecture, art, making and cross-disciplinary exchange, giving visitors regular opportunities to discover new work and meet the people behind it. Williams & Johnson’s café adds a relaxed social hub, complemented by the welcoming, inclusive atmosphere of the wider building. Custom Lane is well suited to freelancers seeking an inspiring place to work, creative businesses looking for studios, and organisers planning thoughtful events. Visitors can enjoy exhibitions, talks, café time and a glimpse of the resident community, which spans architecture, craft, food, design and cultural exchange.
