About this space
A place to settle in and get things done.
The Making Rooms is a community makerspace and Fab Lab in Blackburn, bringing creative technology, practical skills and hands-on making together under one roof. Its welcoming programme is designed for curious beginners, families, schools, community groups, artists, inventors and people developing ideas of their own. Visitors can explore six specialist labs covering digital fabrication, ceramics, textiles, repair, recycled plastics and environmental making. The facilities support activities such as 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC work, screen printing, sewing, pottery and electronics, giving people the chance to turn digital designs or early ideas into physical objects. Alongside access to equipment, The Making Rooms runs instructor-led workshops for different skill levels, including beginner-friendly sessions. Practical learning is central to the experience, whether you are learning a new craft, experimenting with creative technology, repairing unwanted equipment or developing a prototype. Machine time and room hire are also available for projects and organisations. The atmosphere is collaborative and community-minded, with a strong emphasis on repair, reuse and reducing waste. Free public access sessions make it easy to drop in and discover the space, while volunteering offers another way to share skills, learn from others and become involved in the running of the labs. It is an engaging place for individuals, families, educators and local organisations to make, learn and work together.
