About this space
A place to settle in and get things done.
The Write Place is a not-for-profit shared workspace in Frome created for writers who need a calm, purposeful place away from home or work. It welcomes writers of all kinds, from those beginning a family history or first page to experienced novelists and poets. Its defining feature is a phone-free workspace, helping members protect their attention while working alongside others in companionable silence. Set beneath the eaves of Black Swan Arts, the space has a distinctive creative character. Writers can work independently at shared desks, then step into the separate chat room for a break, conversation, reading or a cup of tea or coffee. The atmosphere is quiet and considerate rather than corporate, with the gentle sense of a shared studio where everyone is there to make progress on their own work. Membership is at the heart of The Write Place. Members can reserve desks, use the writing space, borrow books from a writing library and take part in workshops and write-ins. The programme also creates opportunities to share work, exchange feedback and socialise, including Wine & Words evenings, poetry workshops, reading sessions and a writers’ feedback group. The Write Place suits people who write for publication, study, work or personal fulfilment, as well as quiet workers seeking focused desk time. Whether you are drafting a novel, shaping a poem or trying to establish a dependable writing habit, the shared rhythm of the space offers structure without pressure and community without demanding that you give up your own way of working.
